Meet Ms. Anette
Ms. Anette has lived in North Tulsa for 61 years where she has witnessed the region’s struggle to preserve a local source of fresh meat and produce. She met AJ, the owner of Oasis, at a backpack drive where she was collecting items for her recently adopted 7 year old daughter. Her arrival at the drive followed her eye surgery earlier that day and her husband’s self-admittance to a mental institution for substance abuse and mental health problems earlier that week. She dreams of a time when she’ll be able to provide for her family without the specters of financial insecurity and impaired health. She wants to see her daughter get married and her grandchildren walk across the stage and say, “I did it, Grandma.” She wants to be able to bring them all to the Gathering Place and play with them in the park without her walker.
The Oasis team was inspired by her story and hope that a $1000 reward will help encourage sustained mental, physical and emotional health for her and her family. With this money, she won’t have to worry about where her family’s next meal is coming from and will be able to ensure the presence of fresh produce at her table.
Meet Albert Mitchell
Albert Mitchell arrived in Tulsa in 1977 from California after serving in the military. This past October he lost his daughter and one of his granddaughters after they were tragically murdered. Albert kept his promise to his daughter by assuming full care of her kids at 64 and has proven his unwavering persistence through adversity.
The Oasis team found his story inspirational and wanted to provide support for him and his family so he doesn’t have to do so much all on his own. With this $1000 reward, he’ll be able to provide fresh meals for himself and his grandbabies.
Meet Ms. Angela Walker
It all begins with an idea.
Miss Angela Walker
Miss Angela Walker is a single mother of 3, who has faced significant challenges in her life. When she was pregnant with her eldest daughter, Courtney, she was in an abusive relationship, which resulted in complications throughout her pregnancy and continuing ailments in Courtney’s life. Although appearing physically like an adolescent, Ms. Walker is 30 years old and unable to walk. She’s undergone 12 large surgeries, including hip surgery, and depends on being fed every 4 hours through a tube. Courtney is susceptible to contagious illnesses, which has led to kidney failure and the necessity of customizing her intestines. This has all impacted Ms. Walker’s ability to sleep well, compounded by her inability to leave her house because of her lack of transportation.
Her children believe Miss Walker has a servant heart, evidenced by the way she overlooks her own needs, and the Oasis team wanted to give back in any way possible. With this $1000 reward, we hope to ease her financial burden and allow her to continue to serve her family through the great parties, complete with good cooking, that she loves to host.
